Most patients with diabetes are eligible for footwear and inserts under the Medicare Therapeutic Shoe Bill. Medicare Part B covers patients for one pair of shoes and three inserts per year. We are proud to announce that we are representatives of both Dr. Comfort diabetic shoes, and Anodyne footwear. Both brands are approved by Medicare and are covered by Medicare insurance, and have their own PDAC (Pricing, Data Analysis, and Coding) assigned HCPC code (A5500.) Both are designed to protect the feet and decrease the risk of diabetic foot diseases. Why do you need them? Diabetics are familiar with the threat of amputation. Many people with diabetes experience restricted blood flow in their feet because of PAD or peripheral arterial disease and nerve disease. Both unfortunately lead to amputations. But there is good news, amputations are preventable by regular visits to your doctor or podiatrist, and proper footwear. These diabetic shoes are designed to protect the feet from break down in the skin. Breaking down in the skin is what usually leads to non-healing conditions, because of the poor blood flow. Again, this is all preventable with the appropriate footwear.
These diabetic shoes not only provide comfort, but more importantly protect the feet. They protect the feet from not only wounds, but calluses as well as foot strains, and swelling. The combination of the lightweight outsole, combined with the seamless microfiber lining provides only the highest level of comfort, and optimum support. There is also extra depth to promote blood flow and healing. There is extra space because in some cases a doctor may decide you may need to have some combination of diabetic insoles, socks, and shoes. Always consult with a doctor before getting any footwear to ensure you get the best option for you and for your feet.
Dr. Comfort and Anodyne carry a wide selection of footwear, and so many different styles for diabetic patients, and we are more than happy to work with you and help you find the option that best suits your needs. We do believe that you deserve shoes that will not only meet your comfort and style but allow you to live an active, healthy lifestyle. Diabetic patients should not underestimate the importance of these diabetic shoes.
